The Westeros Map, as Something You Play On
WesterCraft’s map of Westeros is a live strategic board, not a static build. Every player-founded keep appears on it with its house, owner and tier, and the borders between houses move as territory is taken. It updates in real time and is readable in the browser without opening Minecraft.

What is on the WesterCraft war map?
The war map shows the state of the realm at this moment:
- Every keep — its name, the house that holds it, and its tier from 1 to 5.
- Territory — which house controls which ground, shifting as land changes hands.
- Unclaimed land — where a new house can still put down a seat.
- NPC houses — non-player seats that fill out the political map.
It is a hex grid over a tiled render of the actual server world, so a position on the map is a real position you can walk to in game.
How do you claim a keep in Westeros?
- Find unclaimed ground on the war map. Keeps cannot be founded on water.
- Request that location for your house.
- An administrator reviews and approves the claim, which prevents land-grabbing and keeps the map coherent.
- Build your seat, then upgrade it through five tiers using gold you earn in game.
Approval is deliberate. It is the mechanism that stops the map turning into a wall of abandoned one-block claims, which is the failure mode of open claim systems.
What do keep tiers do?
A keep advances through 5 tiers. Tier is the public measure of a house’s standing — it is what other players see first on the map, and it marks a house that has held and developed its land rather than simply arrived.
Upgrades are bought with gold collected in game. There is no way to purchase a tier with real money.
How does territory change hands?
Borders move by occupation at the chunk level rather than by destroying a single objective. Holding ground is what converts it, so taking land from a defended house is a sustained effort and not a raid.
The consequence is that the map has memory. A border that moved is a border everyone can see moved, and it stays moved until someone pushes it back.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see the Westeros map without playing Minecraft?
Yes. The live war map is public at westercraft.net/map and shows every keep, its house, its owner and its tier, updating in real time. You do not need a Minecraft account to read it.
How big is the Westeros map in Minecraft?
WesterCraft renders the playable server world as a tiled map with a hex grid over it, so map positions correspond to real in-game locations. The playable area is the live server world rather than a fixed-size static render.
Can I claim any location in Westeros?
You can request any unclaimed land position. Keeps cannot be placed on water, and every claim is reviewed by an administrator before it is granted, which keeps the map coherent and prevents land-grabbing.
What happens to a keep if a player stops playing?
A keep can be abandoned by its owner or reassigned by an administrator, so inactive seats do not permanently freeze territory that other houses could be contesting.
